These are some screen shots of the tester animation I did for City in flux

In this essay I am going to explore modernism, Post-modernism, Illusion, consumerism, universal visual language, and their correlation with the City in flux. I will show how they have influenced art and film in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Modernism has many definitions, it is seen as a philosophical movement which aims to modify ‘traditional’ culture and norms; such as art, religious beliefs, etc., to suit the modern ideas within modern societies.
The ‘norms’ of cities have changed rapidly since the start of the modernist era. The industrial revolution meant that more factories were built and so people moved from the countryside to work, thus creating cities.

Experimental story boards, focussing on places and characters.

This is my final story board of scene one of my short story, I added the camera movements in red pen.

This is the newspaper article which I based my short story on, I found it interesting and immediately thought of what the toy crocodile would be thinking if he could.
This mood board is from scene 3 of my story, the dark colours and images helped me to picture fear and put it into the perspective of the crocodile.

This mood board is from scene 2 of my story, where the crocodile and boy are happy together. The bright colours and imagery used helped me to imagine how the main character was feeling in this scene.

This mood board is for scene 1 of my story, it helped me imagine the layout of the gift shop, what the crocodile would look like and how he was feeling.
My favourite part of the day was coming up, zoo opening time. I could sense the excitement in the room as everyone waited anxiously to be bought; I knew of course my chances of leaving today were low, but I wouldn’t give up hope.
Everyday families come and go, toys are picked from the shelves and taken to what I can only imagine to be the happiest and most loving place. Not me though; others like me have all given up hope of being chosen, I
’m the only crocodile left. Sat high on this shelf almost out of reach to the kids that pick us.
Floods of adults and children rushed in through the door, “Show time” one of the toy polar bear sings as she puts on a sickly sweet face “there’s no point you even trying to impress them croc, you’re just not cute like the rest of us” she snapped at me, I ignored her and presented myself in the best way any scaled, green and rubber creature could. As I peered down from the high shelf I could see everything, as the hours passed children choose the cute and fluffy toys; pandas, zebras and even lions left the shop.
Still nobody even noticed me, I was starting to give up my hope for today. I notice polar bear crying on her shelf, still presentable, as ever “why didn’t they buy me? I’m the best looking here and by far the cutest” I climb down from my shelf and try to comfort her but she waves me away “don’t pity me croc, I pity you because I know you’ll never leave these shelves” she shouts at me.

Using After Affects I created this horror film trailer.
I took pictures of urban Decay and things I found creepy around Huddersfield, I then but them together in a slideshow and edited some of the images so give them a scary effect.
I chose the background music as I could make the photos change easily to the beat.

Using Adobe Illustrator I simplified an image of Marilyn Monroe and made her cartoon-like.
I found the process difficult at first, however I soon got used to the techniques we were using.
I am pleased with the turnout, but I feel as though her feature's aren't in proportion.

Created using Adobe Illustrator, I used an image of a tree and an image of a light bulb.
Using the reflection tools and distorting the image I created this realistic scene of a tree inside a glass light bulb.
I am pleased with the outcome, I feel as though the colours I chose for the tree are realistic and make a pleasing image.

This is a page of my artist research, I collected images and biographical information about the artists and added what I like about their images.
I did this for 12 artists/photographers and based my end result around their work.

These are some ideas I was coming up with to do with the 'City In Flux' theme, my original ideas for the movie trailer are also shown on this.

This progression reel shows the stages of making the animated film 'Ratatouille'.
The stages of the animation are shown and labelled clearly, in order and with each scene following on from the last.
